Dr. Douglas Waltman, PhD, LICDC-CS, is a psychologist and licensed independent chemical dependency counselor with over thirty-five years of clinical experience. He graduated with a master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of Akron in 1977 and obtained his doctoral degree in Counseling Psychology from Kent State University in 1983.
His pre-doctoral internship was with the Northeast Ohio Medical University/Fallsview State Hospital. He obtained post-doctoral training at the Gestalt Institute of Cleveland and the Cleveland Center for Cognitive Therapy. He has also received training in Solution Focused Therapy and Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapy.
His areas of clinical expertise include; psychological assessment, forensic psychology, addictive disorders, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity disorders, anger management, depression, anxiety, severe mental disorders, adolescent conduct problems, and marriage and family therapy.
He has worked with a wide range of clinical populations from children to older adults. He has worked in a wide variety of treatment settings including; outpatient mental health centers, psychiatric inpatient settings, courts, medical settings, chemical dependency treatment programs, and nursing homes.
Outside of work, he enjoys skiing, photography, kayaking, and bicycling. He is also a ski instructor at Brandywine Ski Area and past president of the Chagrin Valley Ski Club.
